What Halvr is

Halvr helps two or more people split shared household expenses. It reads bank statements you upload, lets you add manual charges, and calculates who owes whom.

What we collect

  • Account info: name, email address, authentication credentials.
  • From bank statements, only the transactions you mark as shared: their date, description, amount and category. See “Your bank statements” below.
  • Expenses and settlement history you or the people you share a halvr with create, including the questions, answers and comments you add to an expense, and an audit log of who changed what and when.
  • If you add them to your profile for settling up: your bank account number (IBAN) and the account holder's name, shown only to the members of your halvrs.
  • If you allow notifications in the iPhone or iPad app: a device token, so we can send push notifications to that device.
  • If you contact support: your message, your email address and, when you are signed in, which account and page you wrote from, so we can answer you.
  • If you connect Google Drive: only the specific folder you choose, used solely to archive copies of statements you upload. We request the minimum Google Drive scope needed for this (access limited to files the app creates or you explicitly pick), not read access to your wider Drive.
  • Basic technical data (IP address, device/browser type) for security and abuse prevention.

Your bank statements

A statement is a file you export from your own bank and upload yourself. Halvr never connects to your bank and never sees your bank login.

  • The file is read in memory to list its transactions, and is not stored by Halvr.
  • Only the transactions you mark as shared are saved, with their date, description, amount and category. Everything else on the statement, including your account number, your balance and every transaction you do not share, is discarded.
  • If you connect Google Drive, a copy of the file is saved to a folder you choose in your own Drive. That copy is yours; Halvr does not keep one.
  • When you map the columns of a new bank's file, Halvr remembers only which column holds what (for example “date in column 1, amount in column 4”), so the next person with that bank does not have to. That mapping contains no data from your statement.

How we use it

Solely to run the app: parsing statements, calculating balances, sending you notifications about your shared halvr (new charges, settlement reminders), and billing if you're on a paid plan. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Who we share it with

Only the service providers needed to run Halvr:

  • Supabase: database and authentication (EU-hosted).
  • Vercel: hosting of the website and the server that runs the app.
  • Apple: delivery of push notifications to the iPhone and iPad app, only if you allow notifications.
  • Google Analytics: counting visits to our public pages, only if you allow it. See “Cookies and analytics” below.
  • Google: only if you choose to connect Google Drive for statement archiving.
  • Brevo: email (notifications, account confirmations and password resets, and replies to support messages).
  • Stripe: payment processing for paid plans, including managing applicable VAT/sales tax. Stripe handles your payment details directly; we never see or store your card details.

Members of your own halvr can see the expenses and balances within that halvr. That's the point of the app. We never share your data across unrelated halvrs or with other users outside your halvr.

Cookies and analytics

Halvr uses the storage it needs to keep you signed in and remember settings such as dark mode and language. That needs no consent.

With your permission, we count visits to our public pages (the home page, support, this policy and the terms) with Google Analytics, to see which pages people read and where they come from. It sets cookies, records the pages visited, your browser and device type and an approximate location, with your IP address shortened. It never runs on pages after you sign in, never in the iPhone or iPad app, and is not used for advertising: Google's ad features are switched off.

You choose in the banner the first time you visit, and can change your mind at any time with “Cookie preferences” at the bottom of the home page. Declining changes nothing else about the site.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account yourself at any time under Profile in the app, or ask us to do it by contacting us below. We'll remove your data within 30 days, except where we're required to keep records (e.g. billing history) for legal or tax purposes.

Your rights

If you're in the EU/EEA or UK, you have rights under GDPR to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact us below to exercise any of these rights.
